Recently I have been intrigued by people's life stories. Hmm and perhaps it's more accurate to say that I'm intrigued that everyone has a life story. Wait. Don't roll your eyes yet. You know how we tend to brush our lives when someone asks, "how have u been?" or "so tell me about your life"? We hum and haw and gloss over things and perhaps deep down we do think that ourlives have been b.o.r.i.n.g. . But that's not true at all!
Talk to your parents. Chances are that you'll be amazed that they were young once, how they met, did your dad propose with a ring or a flat application form, that your mum was an accomplished debator. Just so many little events that have been rendered seemingly insignificant with the passage of time.
I was particularly thrilled to read that Ho Kwon Ping and his wife Claire Chiang, had spent 3 years living in Lamma Island, HK, eking their livelihood as a 'poor' journalist and a 'poor' sociologist (or sociology...something). That they too had backpacked in their youth, budget conscious as most youths were and are; and the bigger message really is that we can't just look at someone and dismiss them as having led a charmed life (well some really did yeah), or a boring existence, or had unmeaningful pursuits in life. Everyone has a life story, and it's amazing to hear how people really do come from all walks of life. quite hopeful isn't it?
Like I related to Kc last night, it's comforting to know that these successful hotshots of today probably were just as clueless at the age of 25, as we are now. Hahaha we learn along the way, and really, there's no need to conquer the world by 26, or at all.
