over a discussion with vc last week, i explained my frustruation that some people seem to see social issues as 'soft issues' and dismiss them as unimportant. emotional issues can be seen as 'soft issues' to some (more applicable to men? not always true, i must add), just like how we commonly refer to our feelings or emotions as our "softer side".
what vc said resonated with me, and was spot on with what i had failed to verbalise.
soft issues are important issues, but they are vague and may cover a broad spectrum, and because of this, the solutions to these issues are often not direct. The nebulous nature of 'soft issues' means that we have to think harder, think deeper and think more carefully on how to deal with them. Solutions are not as direct as issuing loans, taking some pills or checking against a box. 'Soft issues' are more important than we think, and we may dismiss them as unimportant because we can't solve them so easily.
we can know everything about econometric forecasting (actually no, this is a wacko field..to me), financial modelling (again, no..it's boring to me), or how many ticks a dog can have but we may not know the person who really matters. we may not know ourselves.
Knowing ourselves would be a great service to the people around us. Being comfortable in our own skin give us the confidence and freedom to love others better, to help others better and to treat others better. You think? I think that if people spent just a bit more time to get to know their inner self, and more effort to be honest with themselves and to accept themselves, many inter-personal problems won't erupt. less silly politics, or sulking, or reticence or tirades or masquerades.
The nakedness of soul can be so difficult to face and to bear.
(I'm watching too much sex and the city haha)
