I think our expectations of work depends largely on our primary motivations for working at a certain organisation. Apparently the rumour mill had been quite active for the past two months, but when these purported policies did not materialise, disappointed sentiments ran high. There are now informal discussions about whether morale is low cos of these 'fallen expectations'.

Perhaps it's cos my dept is small, and doesn't quite have time to really discuss such rumours - maybe we don't even hear of them - but I have not heard of any of these until they blow over. Anyway, we can always complain about what we lack, but we chose this place right? How can we say that there wasn't a choice to begin with. It's quite important to know what motivates you, why you work at where you work. Everyone would like proper compensation, i would too, but don't let it get to you if you treasure the other aspects like the scope of work, environment and learning opportunities. To me, actually looking forward to starting the day at work, is a huge huge plus. :)
