7th July 2006

It’s crazy. How we meet people by coincidence. Sometimes Singapore feels so big, that one can walk down orchard road and feel safe in a cloak of anonymity; yet the truth is that this city can be quite small and we are all connected to each other in less than 3 degrees, and if we look carefully enough, we see our friends/classmates/family/neighbours/students/colleagues sitting in the same train/movie theatre/bus stop/café/ mango sale.

Not that one is necessarily desirable over the other all the time, it’s just an observation. Haha and I was glad to have met Shaz by such a coincidence yesterday.

So we met up this afternoon, over coffee (she had apple tea – best profit generating drink (large cup and small cup price differential of $1 with only a volume differential of 50ml of hot water) at Gelare. She was still as beautiful as ever – she really is, was and will be hahahaha. Im sure the rg girls would heartily agree, and as grounded as ever. Two rather quiet girls who became quite chatty, smiling lots because it seemed so pleasantly odd that we should meet each other in a train (just as I was about to alight). “it’s quirky – u were the second person I was thinking of in Singapore, and there we suddenly met!”

J doesn’t take much to feel connected somehow. At times, life throws up bits of surprises, like caramel bits which make chewing through the dry and tough muesli bar worth it.

Commencement. The beginning of the new chapter (how many times have I said this? ) for the graduates. Ah, in a room full of graduates, and in the small gathering of seniors, it seemed as if this wide eyed (with eye bags) junior was more excited about the seniors getting their scrolls and putting on their gowns and mortar boards than the graduates themselves. Perhaps it was easier to feel excited as a bystander. Anyway, felt so proud of them – vic, Gordon, chloe, yile, linn lip, and pple from my batch who were graduating earlier like calvin and michelle. My hat’s off to u! Running into Ginny and Ying brought much mirth, and meeting Julie brought some cheer and food for thought.

“…everything planned right down to seating and speaking!” are we overzealous detail-freaks??

Can’t wait for my turn to be there in the gown, with the lovely red bands for economics grads, and my parents beaming away looking proud of me. "oh wait, not really looking forward to the commencement of my working life. Just looking forward to that moment, to bask in a little bit of academic glamour with my friends…jacqi, ange, about.life…. Yeah rite..it’s just to don that gown lah.
